One of the things I hate about the Apple iPhones is all of the little gadgets on them.
I can check my Facebook. I can check my Twitter. I can check my email.
Sometimes it is useful, yes.
Like when I was lying in bed the other day replying to urgent emails while I was unwell instead of having to go to a computer.
But overall – it encourages me to go into the “grey zone”
So what is the grey zone?
Grey is drab, right?
It’s neither black or white. Neither good or bad. Sits in the middle… undecided.
And the grey zone is much the same.
I have come to believe there are two spaces we should have in our life…
One is the space of total productivity… working on those 20% of projects which give us 80% of our results so we can grow our business in the least possible time.
And the other is in that state of total relaxation, doing stuff we love…
Walking along the beach… spending time with our kids… in the garden… reading a book, etc.
Of course, there’s all the day to day stuff as well such as hanging out the clothes and washing the dishes.
But you get my point?
Now let me ask you a question -
Does checking your email while you are with your kids fit into this?
No.
How about responding to a Facebook message?
No.
Or taking a phone call from a client while you’re on the beach.
No.
It is my view that if we can create these sort of black and white boundaries and REALLY work when we work and REALLY relax when we relax…
We will not only be more productive…
We will be happier too.
And don’t forget, if you want to get even more out of every action you take, make sure you take the time to sharpen the saw by nourishing your mind and learning the
art of how to get more customers.
