A very cheap form of marketing is affiliate marketing.  And basically affiliate marketing is online.  It’s like online joint ventures where you only pay if you actually make money.  So let’s say you could be a consultant or you could sell a program online for a thousand dollars.  You might go to various affiliates and say, “Listen I’ll pay you $400 dollars for every book you can help me sell.”  And the affiliates says, “That sounds pretty attractive.”  And they start promoting you for free to people who visit their website, to people they know, to people on their mailing list, etc., etc.  And you’re getting income coming through with absolutely no risk on your part.  So that’s really quite a powerful process.

One guy I know, he’s an old client of mine.  He’s a guy called Chris Elmore, who’s got a website called Guitar Tips.  He did this very, very well and I actually interviewed him and he walked me through the process.

And guess what – it’s not difficult. It’s as simple as…

  1. Making an attractive offer to encourage people to join your affiliate program
  2. Designing sales copy which sells on your web site so the affiliate actually sees results and sticks with you.
  3. Setting up the software for the affiliate program.
  4. Creating emails, banner ads and marketing material for your affiliate to use (you want to make this as seamless and easy to follow as possible)
  5. Finding the affiliates.
  6. And then paying them on time.

The powerful thing about affiliate marketing is you only pay for results, so it’s really impossible to use when you work via this medium.

What’s more, because people are visiting your site as a result of a referral, they are more likely to be a good lead over someone who comes from an advertisement.
