I was sitting down meditating this morning when something jolted me out of my coma.
Bang!
It was the garbage truck.
“Oh damn” I thought to myself.
And I have never run so fast to unlock the door, turn the light on, run to the bin and hightail down the driveway and drop the bin off for the garbage guy.
But that wasn’t the end of it.
Because I brought out the wrong bin.
He was picking up the yellow bin, not the red bin.
Now my heart was really pumping.
I sprinted back up the driveway,  grabbed the yellow bin and sprinted back down to make it with just seconds to spare.
And at that moment I felt alive.
I felt like I had dodged a bullet.
I had certainly never taken the bins out so quickly in my life.
And I had achieved something… even before 6am.
Why?
Because I had a deadline – a very sharp one. Of less than a minute.
And deadlines help us get things done, don’t they?
But you don’t have to rely on these sort of deadlines created by others.
The key to success is creating your own.
For instance, I set a deadline on myself to get this email created and sent in less than 30 minutes.
I’ve got deadlines set for a certain amount of copy done and certain projects to be completed by 12pm.
I’ve got daily deadlines. And although I’ve been a bit out of whack this week, I usually have weekly deadlines as well.
So why don’t you stop right now and give yourself  some deadlines for today?
