It’s all happening at the moment from Halloween to Melbourne Cup Day. And the big question is… have you taken advantage of these events which are on the top of everyone’s mind to connect with your customers?

To be honest, this year I haven’t either. More about disorganization and getting busy than anything else.

However I just thought about a way of linking it in…

If you read Friday’s email, you’ll know that I have a special webinar at 11:30am EST on Thursday which walks you through tested and proven strategies to get more traffic to your web site.

And here’s how I would write an ad – if I was organised – to link Halloween and the Melbourne Cup to self promotion.

1. Just the like Halloween, the internet is a scary place. There are so many people trying to sell you different stuff… telling you how to generate wealth online… etc. And it’s easy to invest thousands of dollars in strategies which are simply impossible to make work.

2. Search engine marketing isn’t like that, right?

3. Wrong!

4. The reality is most people who want to get to the top of the search engines usually have to invest thousands of dollars (or hours and hours of your time) to get up there with no guarantee of success.

And here’s where the link comes in for the Melbourne Cup…

5. It’s kind of like trying to win the Melbourne Cup. It’s not going to happen unless you put in a lot of effort and hire the best trainers.

6. That’s because most people go after “Melbourne Cup” type horses. For example, a carpet cleaner tries to get up the top for words like “carpet cleaner” and “carpet cleaning.”

7. But there are plenty of races you can win far more easily and with less competition, just like winning a small town race with a great horse.

8. For example, rather than trying to win the race for carpet cleaner, there may be other keywords such as “carpet stain removal” or “rug cleaning” or whatever which have far less competition.

9. The problem is until now, only the professionals have been able to identify and get to the top of those keywords.

10. But thanks to a new technology and hundreds of hours of development, you can now win the race far more easily. And I’m holding a webinar right here so you can find out more about how it all works…

Don’t race the Melbourne Cup online – it’s a losing game. Say “Boo” the fastest horse in your industry and scare him like crazy by zigging when he zags and taking part in lots of little races you can win – and reap the rewards.

Now I came up with this little “linked in” promotion on the fly. And I believe, if you put your thinking cap on, you’ll be able to come up with some sort of promotion for yourself for when events come up too. For example, for Halloween:

Hairdresser: Is your hair starting to look scary?

Mechanic: If you think Halloween is scary, have you had a look under your bonnet recently?

Accountant: Not filing your taxes on time is far scarier than Halloween.

And how about Melbourne Cup:

Shoe Shop: Trainers spend a fortune looking after their horses feet. Do you?

Florist: Use the money everyone is throwing at Melbourne Cup into winning the ace in your relationship. Buy some flowers for your special someone now.

As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities for the person with the open mind to link in current events into personal promotion.

Just like I did in showing you how to navigate that scary place called the internet and win the races you can actually win online by joining me at 11:30am EST on Thursday for the ride of your life…
