Ok, let’s talk about your inner control freak. And if you are an entrepreneur, you have one that’s sitting there and unknowingly planning your demise.
Let me explain: When you have to control everything, from administration to financials to answering the phone… and
everything else in your business…
… you never give yourself the chance to think strategically.
I realised this last year when I looked around at so many people who knew less than me, worked less than me, but were far more successful.
Then I read this book by Jim Collins called “Good to Great” and he said one of the number one secrets to building a great
company is to get the right people on your bus.
Why?
Because then you can create the time to think strategically about the things which really matter in your business and will
drive the bottom line such as:
Getting More Customers – http://www.morecustomersmadeeasy.com
Getting the internet to generate more business for you – http://www.scottbywater.com/internetsecrets
And writing ads & sales letters which make the cash register ring – http://www.copywritingthatsells.com.au/cashflow
Anyway, look at it like this.
If you’ve been in business for a certain amount of time and you are not leveraging yourself…
You are probably getting frustrated.
It reminds me of the time I was in my “hippie days” and slept in a car out in the bush.
In the morning, I started driving.
And I got stuck in the mud.
There was nobody around anywhere. We were stuck in the middle of nowhere.
What did I do – I sat down and meditated for 5 minutes to get clear on what to do next.
The girl I was with went crazy and started hurling abuse at me.
What the *** was I doing meditating when we were stuck in the middle of nowhere.
Well, I didn’t even know it then, but I must have realised that persisting in moving forward was only going to
drive us deeper and deeper into the ditch.
We needed to either get help from someone (collaboration) or start innovating by placing some cardboard under the tyre
or some other strategy.
Well, we started walking. And after a couple of hours we ran into a ranger who took us back to civilization.
I called a road service company (gee, I got good value from my annual membership back in those days. I can remember a
time when I lost my keys like 3 days in a row
The road service company came and towed our car out.
And everything was hunky dory (yes, we were kind of lucky too).
Whether it’s in business or in life, sometimes we need leverage to get ourselves out of our ruts.
And if you are in a rut right now and don’t know how to get out of it…
Instead of spinning your wheels and digging yourself deeper…
