Did anyone watch the Australian Open last night.

Is Federer like the greatest ever athlete or what?

I don’t think I have ever seen anyone dominate a sport any more convincingly.

And when he brings out his biography, I think I’ll be the first to get my hands on it.

Anyway, that’s not what this email is about – it’s about musical statues.

You see, on Saturday morning, I took my toddler to music lessons. It was a lot of fun and I think it’s good to get kids into a lot of different things at an early age to see what they like & what they don’t.

And one of the little exercises was to walk around in a circle with the music playing and then stop like a “musical statue” in whatever weird position you are in when the music stops.

Now when I was standing there frozen with my leg up in the air and a weird expression on my face, I couldn’t help but relate this exercise to the business world.

Why?

Because what I see happening in so many businesses is this: when we get started in business, we are aggressive, we’re moving, we’re trying new things.

We literally have to, because it’s a case of move or starve.

But then we have some degree of success and all of a sudden we STOP like a musical statue.

After all, we have enough cash-flow coming in… things are cruising… no need to push the boundaries… let’s play it safe.

The problem is for many business owners, the music doesn’t start again for years.

Or sometimes, it doesn’t start again at all.

We stop learning new things.

We stop trying new marketing concepts.

And we become complacent.

And that is a recipe for disaster.

For instance, you might have a great phone directory ad. And it’s working for you, bringing in business, etc.

So why do anything else, right?

Or it might be a great google adwords campaign.

Or a great telemarketing system. Or whatever.

But then something changes.

Your telemarketers leave. The ad stops working. The search engines change their rules.

SLAP!

All of a sudden, you’re in trouble.

But the problem is you’ve been frozen like a musical statue for so long, you don’t know what to do.

OUCH!

So today, ask yourself the following questions:

Have I stopped learning?

Have I stopped trying new things?

Am I the proverbial musical statue?

And then do something about it. It’s time to turn the music on, try new things, break out of the box and make 2010 the year you say:

“That was the year that made all the difference. That was the year I turned my business and my life around.”

And if you want to take a step in the right direction now, head on over to http://www.morecustomersmadeeasy.com

Start moving. Stop freezing. And make this year a year to remember.

I do live product demos in stores, and I was finding that my pitch was getting stale. So last night, I rewrote a fair bit of my pitch from the ground up, and the results were quite astounding.

Strangely enough, I have gotten a lot of suggestions for changing certain things, so why not try something new? The worst it can do is not work, and you change it back. Keep things fresh!
