Want to know how to succeed faster?
Double your failure rate.
Sounds crazy, doesn’t it?
After all, failure is embarrassing… failure is ugly… and failure makes us feel like crap.
But what if we twisted around the way we looked at failure and saw it as a success.
In fact, we are coming up to Xmas… and new years resolutions…and all that good stuff…
so it’s nearly time to make some intentions, right.
Well, why wait.
Why not start now instead and come up with a failure plan.
Stop right now and say to yourself…
I will fail at least 100 times this year.
And then come up with a whole bundle of things you want to do in your business. For instance…
Set up a google adwords campaign
Adapt your google adwords campaign
Do a joint venture with another business
Run a facebook ads campaign
Call up a big client and try to establish a relationship
Send out a direct marketing letter
Begin email marketing
Send out flyers to your local area
Do a fax broadcasting campaign
But here’s the key.
Know that you will fail… and then CELEBRATE YOUR FAILURES.
In fact, put together a little sheet on your wall which makes up 100 boxes. And then put each failure into the box as you do it.
And then celebrate.
Why am I recommending one should turn up their failure rate.
Simply because it’s the fastest way to achieve success.
You see, the reality is perfection is paralysis.
And when you set out with the onset of failing, it means you have more successes along the way.
Think about it this way: the most successful direct marketing companies in the world fail 99% of the time.
But they make a stack of money by converting less than 1% of the prospects they mail to into customers.
The bottom line is the more you fail, the greater the success you’ll achieve.
So go fail at something
Have you heard the anecdote of the boiling frog?
If a frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out right away. However if it is placed in cold water and then slowly heated over a period of time, it will not perceive the danger and will slowly boil to death.
And I think this is an important metaphor which we can all learn from in our business lives…
For instance, you may have set out in your business to charge a certain fee for service or achieve a certain objective.
And then you meet a client who laughed at your lofty ideals… so you dropped them a little.
And then you found it hard to get customers, so you drop your goals a little more.
And then the economy gets tough, so you drop your expectations a little more.
And then it goes around and around in a spiral and you feel as though you are going around in circles.
Essentially, you have ended up as a boiling frog… your business dying right before your very eyes… but because it has all happened so gradually… you don’t even realize it until you’re a dead frog.
I’ve seen this happen to many business owners over the years.
Not knowing what to do… we just sit there and accept things… and because it is gradual… we accept far more pain and frustration than we would have accepted at first.
You may be in the position above. Or you may have an extremely successful business, but whatever the case I believe everyone, including me, suffers from the boiling frog syndrome at some stage in their business lives.
To find out if you are suffering from the ‘boiling frog’ dis-ease, reflect back on your business ideals when you started and ask yourself…
1. Would I have chosen the same clients as I have now when I first began.
2. Would I been happy earning the money I am now when I first got started in business?
3. Is what I have now what I set out to create?
4. Did I set out to work the number of hours I now work for the income I now receive?
If you answered no to any of the questions above, then it’s time to JUMP out of the boiling water and claim the business you deserve.
Start charging what you’re worth. Start getting the clients you deserve. Start working more effectively and earning more money with less time. And start earning what you deserve.
Of course, you need to take action in order to create these sort of breakthroughs.
And in my opinion, one of the best action steps you could take right now is understanding what’s required to get more customers, such as what you’ll learn at http://www.morecustomersmadeeasy.com
When I was around the age of 21 or 22 I bought some rust-bucket of an old car and decided to take a visit to Byron Bay.
And when I got there, I felt great. The sun. The lifestyle. It was awesome and Byron Bay has quite a magical feel to it.
And then I fell into this group which was based around some passive Indian teachings which where all of his followers (including me) were walking around saying “It doesn’t matter” and “you are that” and all sorts of other nonsense.
Now don’t get me wrong, just like any spiritual group, this guy did have some good things to say.
But I grew to hate the group dynamic.
The way everyone believed what everyone elsebelieved. The way everyone hung on this guys words because they thought he was “enlightened.”
I look back at this stage of my life as a big learning experience… a seeking for something deeper… a time when I trusted others above myself.
And it felt awful.
In fact, I can remember a defining moment over that time when I heard this ‘gooroo’ say “there is no free will.”
My heart sank.
My stomach twisted.
And the life inside me was slowly sucked out like a tube with blood draining out of my heart directly into the drain.
And this emotional reaction turned into the physical.
I ended up with glandular fever. I got very, very, very tired. I ended up having to go back to my dad’s house in Coffs Harbour to rest for months.
It was horrible.
And that’s why I loved the quote I saw on twitter from my friend Niro (who really is my friend – @myfriendniro – met him years ago at a Brad Sugars seminar) recently when he said…
“I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined look before they cross the road”
My girlfriend at the time, who was a passionate, loving German girl… insisted it was true (about no free will)… and I couldn’t remain with her. It would have been like marrying someone from a religion you totally disbelieved in.
Anyway, I eventually got my health back when I stopped believing in all of this and I started trusting myself. Started listening to my own “gut instinct.” Began tappping into my own inner wisdom.
That was a turning point in my life – it’s also why I cannot stand gurus.
And ever since then I have found when I tap into my own inner guidance… and listen to my heart… the right guidance comes.
But when I try and listen to social mores… what should be done… or follow someone elses path, it doesn’t feel right and doesn’t work out.
And this “gut feeling” and “listening to yourself” works in business the same way it does in any other area of your life.
For instance, when I started writing these emails and building my email list many years ago, I had a strong gut feeling it would pay off.
I also have strong hunches about certain clients… about which courses and programs to buy in order to take my business to the next level… about who’s advice to listen to.
And I find that when I follow this advice, things run smoothly.
So listen to your hunches today and reap the rewards.
